The Mission of The Bowen Center

Our mission is to positively impact the quality of life of those we serve by providing professional, caring, cost-effective behavioral healthcare services.

                 Our Shared Values and Approach
to Outpatient Therapy at The Bowen Center

We are….

• Strength-based: We focus relentlessly on our clients’ strengths. We help people identify their sometimes hidden strengths and resources and learn to better use them to address their concerns.

• Solution-focused:  We help people make positive changes by assisting them in constructing prompt, practical solutions rather than dwelling excessively on problems  and the past.

•Goal-directed (SMART): We take the time to help our clients create effective roadmaps for change, care plans that are specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-efficient (S-M-A-R-T). We work to create opportunities to celebrate “small,” though meaningful achievements and by doing so to create momentum for even greater growth.

• Outcome (data)-driven:  We remain mindful of our customers’ need for cost-effective and meaningful results. We use recognized outcome measures to assess how our clients are progressing and how they feel about us and the care we provide. We promptly make needed adjustments based on real-time feedback.

• Evidence-based: We recognize that to be professionally responsible is to be a life-long learner. We are committed to identifying, learning and implementing those clinical methods that have been shown by peer reviewed research to be most effective and efficient in helping those we serve. We will implement evidence based clinical practices in a disciplined manner with fidelity to the selected models.

• Trauma-informed:  We keep very much in mind that most of those we serve have been deeply affected by multiple experiences of trauma, both in childhood and later in life. We respond to these emotional wounds with compassion and without judgment. We seek to understand people’s stories and to help them transform them by using treatment methods that have been demonstrated effective in fostering healing.

• Culturally competent: We work to relate effectively to individuals from various groups and backgrounds, responding to the unique needs of members of minority populations. We are culturally sensitive and provide culturally appropriate prevention, outreach, assessment and intervention services.

• Time-efficient: We recognize that great and growing behavioral health needs of the communities we serve may exceed our capacity to meet them. In order to be good stewards of our clients’ time, financial resources, and insurance benefits, we will employ treatment methods that are likely to achieve meaningful and timely results and improve consumer access to needed care.

• Consumer-driven: We consider the client/family to be the “owner” of their care plan. We acknowledge that clients and family members are the true experts about their lives and that they will teach us what they need if we listen well, respectfully and without judgment. We employ motivational principles and language to invite consumers to remain active participants in all aspects of their care.
